PERFORMANCE METRICS

Why modern systems matter

Commercial heat pump and VRF systems perform radically differently from legacy boiler systems. Here's what the numbers mean.

3.8
Typical COP (Coefficient of Performance)
For every 1 kW of electricity input, the system outputs 3.8 kW of heat. Modern boilers achieve around 0.95 — the physics are fundamentally different.
60%
Operational Carbon Reduction
Against equivalent gas systems, heat pumps cut carbon emissions by 60% or more depending on grid mix. Grid decarbonisation improves COP over time — your system gets greener every year.
Net Zero
Pathway Requirement
UK buildings are moving toward net zero compliance. Heat pumps + renewables are the core pathway. Installing now avoids costly future retrofit — boilers have no long-term path.
SYSTEMS EXPLAINED

VRF, heat recovery & commercial chillers

VRF & Heat Recovery

Variable Refrigerant Flow systems don't work like domestic split A/C. Each zone is independently controlled and can run heating or cooling simultaneously. In winter, zones that need heating draw outdoor air — zones needing cooling recycle internal heat. This simultaneous operation is why heat recovery VRF systems achieve COPs of 4+.

Commercial buildings — schools, offices, hotels — often have different needs in different areas. VRF is built for this.

  • Independent zoning: 70 zones can run at 70 different temperatures
  • Heat recovery: Waste heat from cooling zones feeds heating zones
  • Part-load efficiency: Runs at optimal efficiency at 20% load or 100% load
  • Ductwork: Uses standard ducted infrastructure, fits into ceiling voids

Chillers & Commercial Scale

When people think "heat pump," they often think domestic heating only. Commercial chillers do both — they heat and cool simultaneously. A chiller serving a large building can be pulling heat from one section while cooling another, all on the same system.

This is the opposite of traditional boiler + AC splits. It's more efficient, simpler to maintain, and it's the direction commercial building services are moving.

  • Simultaneous H/C: Heating and cooling on one system, one refrigerant circuit
  • High capacity: Suitable for 20+ kW to 500+ kW installations
  • Net zero compatible: Pairs directly with renewables and storage
  • Reduced footprint: One outdoor unit instead of separate boiler and A/C plant
BOILER SYSTEMS

Commercial boiler installation

For projects where boiler systems remain the right choice — retrofit constraints, existing infrastructure, specific load profiles — we install and commission gas condensing and hybrid systems. Installation-focused: specification, first fix, second fix, commissioning, and handover packs.

What we handle

Commercial boiler specification and installation across London. We work with existing building services, coordinate with other trades, and deliver full compliance documentation at handover.

  • System design & specification against building load
  • First and second fix installation & pipework
  • Gas Safe certification & commissioning
  • Control integration & zone balancing
  • Handover documentation & warranty registration
  • Training for building management team

When boilers remain right

We don't fit boilers into every project — heat pumps are the better solution in most cases. But for some installations, boilers make sense:

  • Existing high-temperature heating infrastructure
  • Buildings with no outdoor space for heat pump units
  • Rapid replacement in emergency scenarios
  • Hybrid systems during transition phases
  • Projects where peak load justifies gas redundancy
